【Abstract】wWw.shuoshilunwen.com Dwight H. Perkins is The Harold Hitchings Burbank Research Professor of Political Economy of Harvard University. Previous positions at Harvard include chairman of the Department of Economics; Director of the Harvard Institute for International Development (HIID); and Director of the Harvard University Asia Center. Dwight Perkins has authored or edited twenty books and over one hundred articles on economic history and economic development, with special references to the economies of China, Korea, Vietnam and the other nations of east and Southeast Asia. He has served as an advisor or consultant on economic policy and reform to the governments of six countries including China. He has also been a long-term consultant to the World Bank, the Ford Foundation, various private corporations, and agencies of the U.S. government, including the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.This paper attempts to make a comprehensive study of Perkins with methodology of academic history. The first Part is an account of Perkins’ life and research activities, including he first make a figure in Harvard University, work as a consultant in both US. government and in developing countries including China. His life is a Miniature of the history.The second part is mainly an analysis of the academic properties and knowledge structure of Dwight Perkins, which namely include his discussion on market force and government control, population and productivity, and the relation between government and corporations.Then comes the investigation of the birth of his knowledge structure. It is established on the basis of the development of social and economic science in the US. He illustrated a macroscopic status of Chinese economy with a practical thought of the school, and ge solid advices in various countries.
