现代性:社会历史、艺术与设计

社会事实反映出时代的变化,大约在20世纪浮现的现代艺术与现代设计同样如此。既然把它们看作变化中的社会事实,那么我们考察现代艺术与设计的最好视角就有可能是产生它们的社会与历史。西方历史肇始于占代希腊,在它进入现代文明之前曾穿越了古希腊-罗马以及中世纪等时期。从那一段历史当中西方人收获颇丰,其中就包括了他们的理性主义与基督教精神,但对于西方现代艺术与设计,正是在20世纪之前的复杂社会变迁才对其产生搭建了必要的历史背景。20世纪的西方已经完全形成了被称之为现代社会的这样一种社会形态。若要寻找这个社会形态的起源,那么从经济发展来看可以追溯到15世纪文艺复兴之前。自那时起,资本主义经济随着商业和城市的兴起而不断活跃,15世纪末的海外地理大发现和18世纪爆发的工业革命等作为催化剂极大地推动了资本主义经济形式在欧洲的进展。作为古典经济学说权威的亚当·斯密用自己的经济理论详细阐述了这种经济形态的潜力,而以法国为中心但其影响则遍及整个欧洲的启蒙运动,孟德斯鸠、伏尔泰以及卢梭等人作为其代言人宣告出了新价值观,同时显现的也包括不同于以往的人们的观念以及态度。变革催促着政治革命的最终降临以及新政治体系的逐渐确立,西方现代社会由此成形。现代艺术与设计则生产于这样的变革之后,但不同的社会历史因素对它们的形成产生了不同力度的冲击。我们可以在某个现代艺术流派中发现弗洛伊德的精神浅析浅析学说的影响,而穆特修斯对于设计的标准化的主张则反映的是大工业和批量化的机械生产。不过这两者却仍然扮演着处理人与其周围世界之关系的重要角色,也许相异的仅仅是艺术始终关照着人们的精神界域,而设计则无不时时面对它的(也就是我们的)现实,不:过无论如何,它们却背负着明显的时代特点,即是一种很难再被复制的现代气质。此篇论文以社会历史与艺术、设计之关系的内在逻辑为前提,首先阐述了作为文明体系的西方社会历史的发展路径,并以此为根据尝试去浅析浅析西方现代艺术与设计的产生与西方现代社会诸因素的关联,期望从中寻找出对于现代艺术与设计产生之缘由的合理性解释。

Since Modern Art and Design being seen as a changing social fact, the social history in which Modern Art and Design were born could be a very possible perspective under which they were going to be reviewed.Western history began with Ancient Greece. It went through the Ancient Greece, Rome and Middle Age before standing in the path toward modern age. The westerners he eventually seen the harvest from history, as Rationali and Christianity were highlighted among them. However, only the dramatical social change before 20th century had built an essential background for the beginning of Modern Art and Design.Western world had been totally modernised at the beginning of 1900s. If we tried to retrace the root of this social development, the economical change occured even before the Renaissance would be focused firstly. With the thriving of business and continuously arising of new city, Capitali grow up rapidly since then. The overseas exploratior since 15th century and the industrial revolution in 18th century, as an important catalyst, drived the Capitalised western world go forward. A remarkable economist, Adam Smith, expatiated the potential power of new economy in his theory. The movement of Enlightement, generally centralised in France but its influence overspreaded in Europe, spoke out the new values by its spokeen, known as Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau, etc. Changing led to a influential political revolution and new political system was built gradually. Then, a visible western modern society erected in front of us.The coming of Modern Art and Design followed this change closely and different historical factors gived a different impact on them. We saw easily the Freud’s affect to Surreali, however, Muthesius’ proposition revealed the trend of mass production. But both Modern Art and Design still played the key roles whose responsibility just to deal with the relation between human and the world surrounded them. The only different was, Modern art took care more of our spiritual life, while Modem Design he to face the real world any time. At all events, a particular Zeitgeist has been embedded on them, it is a Zeitgeist which cannot be copied easily.The hypothesis of this thesis was brought out as the logical relation between social history and Modern Art or Design. At first the development of western world in recent centuries was concerned. Then, it is possible for us to analyse how Modern Art and Design responsed actively to social change, and to give a reasonable explanation for their coming.
